Questions patients often ask
Booking and visits
How do I book an appointment?
Use the form on the Contact page, call 72049 21212 or 72049 21516, or message us on WhatsApp. We aim to reply within 24 hours and confirm a time that suits you.
Should my partner come to the first visit?
If you can, yes. Fertility involves both partners, and many tests involve the male partner. If your partner cannot come, you can still book, and he can be tested later.
What should I bring?
Bring previous reports, scans, semen analysis, any treatment summaries, your medicines, and the dates of your last three periods. Write down your questions as well.
Is the first consultation long?
Yes, on purpose. The first visit is the longest, because Dr. Swati takes a full history before suggesting any test or treatment.
Is my information private?
Yes. We use your details only to arrange and give care, as explained in our Privacy Policy. We do not publish patient names, photographs or stories without written consent, and we do not share information with your employer or relatives without your permission.
Fertility basics
When should I see a fertility specialist?
After 12 months of trying without a pregnancy, or after 6 months if the woman is 35 or older. Sooner if periods are irregular or absent, if there is known endometriosis, fibroids or tubal disease, or after two or more miscarriages.
What are the first tests for infertility?
Usually a pelvic ultrasound with an antral follicle count, an AMH blood test, thyroid and prolactin tests, a tubal patency check, and a semen analysis for the male partner. Dr. Swati decides which are needed.
What is AMH?
AMH, or anti-Mullerian hormone, is a blood test that reflects how many small egg-containing follicles you have. It helps estimate ovarian reserve and guide treatment planning. It does not, on its own, predict whether you will conceive.
How does age affect fertility?
Fertility in women declines gradually from the late twenties and more steeply after 35, because egg number and quality fall. In men, sperm quality can also change with age, though more slowly. This is why timing matters.
Can I get pregnant with PCOS?
Yes, many women with PCOS conceive. PCOS can make ovulation irregular, so treatment focuses on regular ovulation, weight and metabolic health, and sometimes ovulation-inducing medicine. See the PCOS page.
Does a normal ultrasound mean normal fertility?
Not always. A scan shows the uterus and ovaries, but it does not show whether the tubes are open, how good the eggs are, or whether the semen is normal. A fertility evaluation looks at all of these.
How long should we try before seeking help?
The guideline is 12 months for most couples, and 6 months if the woman is 35 or older. If you are worried earlier, it is fine to ask. An early check can save months.
Treatments
What is IUI?
Intrauterine insemination places washed, prepared sperm directly into the uterus around ovulation. It suits some couples with unexplained infertility, mild male factor, or ovulation problems, and needs at least one open fallopian tube.
What is IVF?
In vitro fertilisation means collecting eggs, fertilising them with sperm in a laboratory, growing the embryos for a few days, and transferring one into the uterus. It is used when other approaches are unlikely to work or have not worked.
Is IVF painful?
Hormone injections cause mild discomfort, and some people feel bloated during stimulation. Egg collection is done under sedation, so you do not feel it, and you may have cramps afterward. Embryo transfer is usually quick and feels like a Pap test.
What is egg freezing?
Egg freezing means stimulating the ovaries, collecting eggs and freezing them by vitrification for later use. It preserves eggs at the age they were frozen, but it does not guarantee a future pregnancy.
Who can have IUI or IVF in India?
Under the ART (Regulation) Act, 2021, services are for married couples with infertility, where the woman is 21 to 50 and the man is 21 to 55, and for widowed or divorced women aged 21 to 50. Written consent is required.
How much does IVF cost?
The cost depends on the medicines, the number of eggs and embryos, the laboratory steps and the number of cycles. After your evaluation, you receive a written estimate before treatment begins.
Do you tell the baby's sex?
No. Telling or testing for the sex of the baby is prohibited by Indian law, and EVE never does it.
Does EVE do surrogacy or donor treatment?
EVE does not offer surrogacy or donor treatment at this time. Please ask at your consultation if you want to understand the rules.
Women's health and pregnancy
I have irregular periods. Should I worry?
Occasional variation is common, but cycles that are often longer than 35 days, or shorter than 21, or missed for three months, are worth a check. Causes include PCOS, thyroid problems and stress. See Menstrual disorders.
What is recurrent miscarriage?
It means two or more pregnancy losses. Most losses happen by chance, but two or more deserve a careful workup. See the Recurrent pregnancy loss page.
How soon can an early pregnancy scan show a heartbeat?
A transvaginal scan can usually show a heartbeat at about 6 weeks of pregnancy, counted from the first day of your last period. If it is too early, the scan is repeated in a week or so.
What age should I start Pap smears and HPV vaccination?
Cervical screening is generally advised from the mid-twenties to thirty, depending on history and guideline. HPV vaccination works best before exposure, and India's national programme now offers a free single dose to 14-year-old girls. See that page.
When does menopause start in India?
The average age is about 46 to 47 in Indian women, a few years earlier than in many Western countries. Perimenopause can begin years before that. See the Menopause page.
Payment and privacy
What payment modes do you accept?
Payment is taken at the clinic. Treatment estimates are given in advance in writing.
Can I get a refund if I cancel?
See our Appointments, Cancellation and Refund page for the rules on rescheduling and refunds of consultation and test fees.
How do you protect my data?
We collect only what we need, store it securely, and use it for your care and booking. You can ask to see, correct or delete your data. See the Privacy Policy.
Do you share reports with my family doctor?
Only with your permission. If you want your reports sent to another doctor, tell us and we will arrange it.
Can I be treated confidentially if I am unmarried?
Consultations and tests for women's health concerns are confidential and open to all adults. Some fertility treatments are regulated by the ART Act, which sets eligibility rules, and Dr. Swati can explain what applies.
