Natural conception support

Natural conception support helps you get pregnant without IUI or IVF, by finding your fertile window, treating anything that interferes, and improving the health of both partners. At EVE Women and Fertility Clinic in Bangalore, Dr. Swati Shree starts with the simplest approach that can work, because many couples conceive with timing and small changes.

How conception works, simply

An egg is released once a cycle (ovulation) and lives for about 12 to 24 hours. Sperm can live in the reproductive tract for up to five days. This means pregnancy is possible from about five days before ovulation to the day of ovulation. The two or three days before ovulation are the most fertile.

What happens at EVE

  1. Map your cycle

Dr. Swati reviews your period dates, cycle length and symptoms, and works out when you are likely to ovulate.

  2. Choose a tracking method

Options include a calendar, ovulation test strips that detect the LH surge, cervical mucus changes, basal temperature and follicular monitoring with ultrasound. Dr. Swati advises the method that fits your cycle.

  3. Check what could interfere

A basic check of thyroid, prolactin and weight, and a pelvic scan if needed, find the common fixable causes.

  4. Preconception advice

Folic acid, vaccination status, medicines, alcohol, smoking, caffeine, sleep and weight are reviewed for both partners.

  5. Review

If you are not pregnant after the agreed number of cycles, or earlier if age or history call for it, the plan moves to a full fertility evaluation.

Simple habits that help

  • Have intercourse every one to two days from about five days before expected ovulation, rather than only on one day
  • Take folic acid daily, as advised, before and during early pregnancy
  • Aim for a healthy weight, since being much over or under weight can disturb ovulation
  • Stop smoking, and keep alcohol low. Smoking affects both egg and sperm health
  • Avoid steroid or testosterone products, which can switch off sperm production
  • Keep medical conditions such as thyroid disease and diabetes well controlled
  • Sleep regularly and keep stress manageable

What natural conception support cannot do

It cannot open a blocked tube, replace missing sperm, or overcome age-related decline in eggs. If the evaluation finds one of these, Dr. Swati explains the next step honestly.

FAQs

How long should we try naturally before seeing a doctor?

For most couples, 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse. If the woman is 35 or older, 6 months. If periods are irregular, or there is a known problem such as endometriosis or low sperm count, come sooner. An early visit can save time.

How often should we have intercourse to conceive?

Every one to two days during the fertile window is as effective as daily and less stressful. Timing intercourse on one day only can miss ovulation. If your cycles are irregular, ovulation tracking helps.

Do ovulation test strips work?

They detect the LH surge that comes 24 to 36 hours before ovulation, and are useful if your cycles are regular. In PCOS they can mislead, because LH can be high without ovulation. Follicular monitoring with ultrasound is more reliable then.

Which supplements should I take before pregnancy?

Folic acid is advised daily before and in early pregnancy. Other supplements depend on your tests, such as vitamin D or iron. Avoid taking many products on your own, and tell Dr. Swati what you already take.

Do lifestyle changes really matter?

Yes, modestly. Smoking, heavy alcohol, being very over or underweight, and anabolic steroids can all reduce fertility. They do not replace medical treatment, but improving them can raise the chance of natural conception and help treatment work better.

Can stress stop me from getting pregnant?

Everyday stress rarely stops conception on its own, though severe stress can disturb cycles. Trying to conceive can itself be stressful. Sleep, shared time and clear information help, and we can suggest counselling support.
